Holy Week and Easter – 2025
An invitation from the Beacon Parishes to a week of celebration.
Please join us for our celebration of Holy Week and Easter. This is the high point of the Christian year. We will celebrate the story of Holy Week and Easter over a week long festival with many lovely gatherings to enjoy and take part in.
12th April – Saturday
We get into the Easter mood with activities and crafts, coffee and chat.
We are gathering in the morning
10.30am – 12noon St Andrew’s Ipplepen – a morning of coffee, chat, activities and crafts around the Easter Story – for all ages, children bring a parent!
13th April – Palm Sunday
We celebrate how Jesus made his final journey into Jerusalem riding on a Donkey
We are gathering in the morning
10am St John the Baptist Woodland – Holy Communion with a dramatised reading of Christ’s Passion.
We meet in Woodland parish rooms and then walk to the church remembering Jesus entry to Jerusalem.
Monday 14th, Tue 15th, Wednesday 16th of Holy Week
We get ready for our celebration of Easter which will start on Maundy Thursday with some small services offering times of reflection.
Monday 14th April
12 noon St Peter and St Paul’s Broadhempston – silent prayer and mediation
6.30pm St Andrew’s Ipplepen -final Lent study group and Holy Communion
Tuesday 15th April
9.15am St Andrew’s Ipplepen, Morning Prayer
10.15am St Andrew’s Ipplepen, Holy Communion
6pm St Mary’s Denbury, Stations of the Cross
Wednesday 16th April
9.30am St Mary’s Denbury, Morning Prayer
10.30am St Mary’s Denbury, Holy Communion
17th April – Maundy Thursday
We celebrate how Jesus loved his disciples to the end, stopping at nothing for love. Jesus gives himself in a meal and in washing his disciples’ feet.
We are gathering in the evening.
7pm St Andrew’s Ipplepen Holy Communion including footwashing followed by The Watch (sitting with Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane)
18th April – Good Friday
We celebrate Jesus’ faithfulness in the light of human fickleness. A faithfulness that took him to the cross.
There are a number of gatherings across the day
10am – 12noon St Mary’s Denbury – Easter Garden Walk for children and families…..collecting flowers, moss etc on the walk and then making the Easter garden
10.30am St Andrew’s Ipplepen – short service followed by the Walk of Witness (carrying the cross) through Ipplepen Village
12noon to 3pm St Peter and St Paul’s Broadhempston …sitting at the foot of the cross…interactive quiet reflective time come and go as you wish.
19th April – Holy Saturday
We celebrate that God could not wait to share his love and dispel fear. Jesus is risen at night.
We are gathering in the evening
8pm St Mary’s Denbury – Easter Vigil starting with the blessing of the Easter fire outside the church and ending with the first Easter celebration of Holy Communion.
20th April – Easter Sunday
We begin our celebration of the mystery of Easter a celebration that lasts 50 days. We celebrate that in Jesus’ resurrection darkness becomes light, death becomes life, and sacrifice becomes love.
We have a gathering in each of our villages in the morning
9 30am St Peter and St Paul’s Broadhempston Holy Communion with children’s craft table and Easter egg hunt
10am St John the Baptist, Woodland – Holy Communion
10am St Mary’s Denbury Holy Communion followed at 11.30am by Easter Bonnet parade and Easter egg hunt.
11am St Andrew’s Ipplepen Holy Communion with children’s activities and Easter gg hunt
All are welcome at these lovely gatherings as we celebrate together the amazing story of Easter over this week long festival.
